Full Bio

Michelle A M Miller is a somatic coach, Death Doula, and interdisciplinary artist. INELDA-trained and currently completing certification in Mind-Body Coaching, her work uses death awareness as a lens for living more deliberately.

The daughter of an Indigenous immigrant mother and a white American father, she grew up between worlds — an environmental testing laboratory, long hours in the landscape, and in art studios that nurtured two enduring instincts: a curiosity about what can be observed and measured, and a reverence for all that cannot.

In 2021, four members of her family died, including her father. That season of loss deepened a question she has returned to ever since: what changes when we remember we will die? Her practice, Wise Mortal, offers somatic coaching and reflective experiences rooted in death awareness — not to prepare people for dying, but to help them stop postponing the life they want to live.

She facilitates community Death Cafés and is creator of The Obituary, a guided reflective writing experience. Her artist books are held in 20 public collections including Harvard University.

About The Obituary

The Obituary is a guided reflective writing experience that uses mortality as a lens. Participants move through a scaffolded process of reflection and mindfulness meditation, ultimately drafting their own obituary — not as a final statement, but as a clarifying one.

About Death Café

Death Café is a facilitated group conversation where people gather to talk openly about death and mortality — no agenda, no therapy, no belief system. Michelle hosts Death Cafés bimonthly in South Florida.
