FULL BIO
Michelle A M Miller is a somatic coach and creative thought partner.
She spent more than two decades in operations in a highly regulated scientific industry while building an interdisciplinary art practice alongside it. The laboratory, the studio and the experiences of her whole life have nurtured two enduring instincts: curiosity about what can be observed and measured, and reverence for all that cannot.
Her curiosity about mortality is inseparable from her interest in what it means to be alive—in a body, for a finite amount of time. She has practiced meditation for more than a decade and has formally trained as an end-of-life doula and somatic coach.
Through Wise Mortal, Michelle works one-on-one with women navigating the strange business of a whole life, alongside projects exploring mortality, attention and the choices we make while we’re here.
She earned a BA in Art History from Georgetown University and a BFA in Studio Art from Florida Atlantic University. She is also co-founder of INTERVAL PAPER and co-creator of The Good Enough Guide.
Her artwork is held in more than 20 public collections, including the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Yale University and Harvard University.
ABOUT WISE MORTAL
Wise Mortal is the work of Michelle A M Miller, exploring mortality, discernment and the strange business of being alive.
Through coaching and various projects, Michelle examines what changes when we remember that our time is finite—and how paying closer attention to ourselves, one another and the astonishing world we inhabit might shape what we do with the time we have.
ABOUT THE OBITUARY
The Obituary is a guided writing experience that invites participants to begin at the end and write their own obituary while their lives are still unfolding.
Through guided meditation and reflective writing, participants consider their life and legacy and curate what belongs in their story. By the end, participants have a working draft of their own obituary.
TOPICS
Michelle is available for interviews, essays, podcasts, and speaking engagements on:
The impossible edit: what writing your own obituary can reveal about life and legacy
Write your obituary before you make your vision board: how remembering you’re going to die can reveal what you actually want
